An update on The Galtellì Literary Prize
We received almost 200 submissions from 22 countries in the world: Australia, Canada, Cameroon, Egypt, France, Germany, Ghana, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Pakistan, Palestine, Nigeria, Portugal, Sardinia, Singapore, Trinidad and Tobago, UK, USA, Zambia. More that 160 submissions were valid. At the end of the work, due to the high quality of the pieces received, the jury and the Committee of Galtellì decided to enlarge the number of the finalists from 5 to 7 authors: 3 in English, 3 in Italian and 1 in Sardinian. These writers will be invited in Sardinia for the literary week and the award ceremony. Moreover, other 5 writers have been shortlisted for the anthology that Galtellì wants to publish in honour of Grazia Deledda and this outstanding event. In a short time, the list of the authors will be ready and it will be our pleasure to communicate the names also in Beyond Thirty-Nine.
Of course, all the writers, scholars, fans, supporters and friends will be welcome in Sardinia in October. We are organising a very interesting week from 19 to 24 October, full of touristic & cultural excursions, lectures, conferences and workshops with selected international scholars and professors, shows, musical and theatrical plays, folk music, exquisite meals and wines, discussions under the stars, Sardinian tastes and flavours.
The literary week is based right in Galtellì (*), which is a beautiful Sardinian village with a comfortable and traditional ‘shared hotel’ – the quality of the rooms, service and meals is very high. We are organising in detail all the appointments and we will communicate our programme in a short time. Generally, in the morning we will have touristic and cultural excursions. In the afternoon presentations, workshops, plays and discussions. In the evening, we can enjoy convivial dinners with literary or musical moments.
Officially the literary week will start at 10:00 of Monday 19 October and will be over on Saturday 24 October at 15:00. The award ceremony will be on 24 October at 11:00. Then speeches, lunch, farewell, etc.
We are expecting guests from all over the world, USA, UK, India, China, Hong Kong, Australia, Israel, etc, and, of course, from Italy and Sardinia.
The most comfortable airport is Olbia, 80 kilometres from Galtellì.
The packages that we are preparing include the pick-up and drop-off at the Olbia airport, the complete stay in Galtellì and the free participation to all the events, trips, festivals, etc. during the week.
The exceptional prices start from 550 euros (1 person, 5 nights) or 630 euros (1 person, 6 nights).
We will be at your disposal for every information you need.
(*) Galtellì is a beautiful village in the Province of Nuoro, Sardinia. Galtellì was a historical episcopal see, in the current diocese of Nuoro, in the territory of the Barony. It has an important heritage of historical, cultural and environmental resource and is one of the better-preserved historic centre in Sardinia, with low whitewashed houses with patios and loggias. Galtellì has numerous churches, the ethnographic museum and the Literary Park dedicated to Grazia Deledda. The cathedral of Saint Peter houses a cycle of Romanesque frescoes. The proximity to the sea (Galtellì is only 9km from the Gulf of Orosei) makes the town a destination point for those staying on the coast, but visitors also attend the numerous events and cultural initiatives that take place year round. The innovative concept of ‘albergo diffuso‘ or widespread hotel, a structure of more than 100 rooms in the village with centralised services (reception, workshop rooms, offices, auditorium, amphitheatre, etc.) is another appealing characteristic. Galtellì is a municipality listed in four important national lists: Borghi Autentici d’Italia (Genuine Villages of Italy), Parchi Letterari d’Italia (Literary Parks of Italy), Bandiera Arancione (Orange Flag, a touristic and environmental quality mark by Touring Club of Italy), and Legambiente Turismo, which promotes the development of good strategies and practices for the sustainable tourism by setting up a new way of discovering and living in Italian places.
