Hung was born in an obscure village in Kaiping. He left China in 1953 and went to Canada at eight in 1956 as a “Paper Son” to live with his Grandfather, Tom Der, in an equally obscure village in Saskatchewan.
He spent most of his growing up years in Northern Canada, but now lives in Toronto where he practices dentistry. To transition to retirement he currently is finishing up his MFA at CityU in Hong Kong. He used to tell stories to his patients, now he’s trying to write them.
