Sharmistha Mohanty is the author of three works of fictional prose—Book One, New Life, and the most recent Five Movements in Praise. She has also translated the selected fiction of Tagore, as Broken Nest and Other Stories. Her translation of the Bengali classic Pather Pachali is forthcoming as a Penguin Classic.
She is the founder editor of the online journal Almost Island and the initiator of the Almost Island Dialogues, an international writers meet held annually in New Delhi.
Mohanty is currently on the International Faculty of the Creative Writing MFA in Hong Kong.
She has received several fellowships, including one at the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Germany, and a Senior Fellowship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Her work has been published in journals all over the world.
Mohanty lives in Mumbai, with her husband, a film-maker and video artist.
