Www.sardegnaintreno.it – Sardinia by train
If you plan to visit Sardinia, I suggest you forget cars and catch a train, especially for the ride between Cagliari and Ogliastra, the best one in terms of scenery, between Macomer and Bosa and, of course, between Macomer and Nuoro. The speed of the train has been the same since the beginning of the Twentieth century, maybe slower between Macomer and Nugoro, so you must be patient, forget the thrill of today’s life, enjoy a journey that projects you into an old past. The comfort is higher today. The heater works during the winter. There is no longer the guard who shouts: “Legs up!” to put braziers under the chairs, and the chairs are more comfortable.
I’m sure that your experience will be unique. The landscape is breathtaking, and as various and legendary as the American West is.
For more info, look at the website www.sardegnaintreno.it, which one of my friends, Marco Anedda (Cheers, Marco!) dedicated to Sardinian trains with a particular love, and if you want to buy some wonderful DVD go also to www.tg-trains.com.
Later you must hire a Sardinian donkey and go for a pleasant ride, not a touristic one that lasts ten minutes, but a long walk of about four hours or even better a day, just to cleanse your soul and to regain your peace. Stunning paths are waiting.
Don’t miss the opportunity, please, to fall in love with a Sardinia that doesn’t exist more (and to reset your spirit). If you are lucky enough, while riding the donkey it is possible to see sor kaddos birdes, ‘the green horses.’ They are famous for their beauty, and have supernatural powers. They appear and disappear. The king of Bisarcu, the hidden inland near the Sleeping Giant Mountain, owned one of them.
Moreover, if Etdella Birde – it is the name of the head of the green horses – allows you to ride him, you will be the new King Shepherd, and Sardinia will be yours.
